The South Australian Amateur Football League has launched a new book to commemorate its centenary in 2011 – We are the Amateurs … A Century in the Making.

This limited edition book is generally different to most surrounding a centenary because it focuses on the qualities that make up amateur football including passion, uniqueness, determination, stability, resilience, compassion, opportunity and achievement, rather than statistics.

Although records and achievements are well covered, the book delves more into the culture of amateur football and its people. Every current club is covered in regard to why it is special, and pictorially.

The foreword was written by AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.

We are the Amateurs was written by SAAFL media manager Ashley Porter, and features some magnificent photography by Jayson Vowles. There are up to 208 pages and almost 100 magnificent images.
