Choosing the right Step Down Voltage Converter for your American or Japanese appliance:
Please read these easy tips before purchasing your step down voltage converter to ensure you have chosen the right one for your appliance:
1. When it comes what what size converter I need, We must establish what is the total power draw in watts specified on your 110~120V USA or 100V JAPANESE appliance?
On Most appliances there will be 3 sets of numbers which should be displayed as follows:
“Input 120V 60Hz and either xx Amps or xx Watts”
If the appliance rating is xx A then please enter the number in the A section of the calculator “above”, this will then show how many watts it is.
If already marked xx W then you are ready to select from the above table.
2. What is your appliance? Will your appliance be used for a brief period or running continuously?
All 8ZED Range of step down converters have two power ratings, 1st rating is for 1 hour or less, 2nd power rating is for over an hour or continuously. These are safety power rating parameters to ensure the converter runs cool and lasts many years to come.
Many users tend to hide the converter away behind appliances or in cupboards (in some cases not allowing adequate airflow) hence to have the safety allowance built in to avoid overheating.
3. Does your appliance have a motor, pump, heating element or compressor?
Appliances including one of these elements may require a larger transformer model than indicated by the power draw specification. These high power surge elements have large start up power requirements. Typically, you should select a transformer 3 to 6 times stated power draw.If unsure ,Contact Live Support or call 1300 799 455 for further assistance.
Example : However in many cases if your appliance states 120V 60Hz and 6.15A then this will be the max current draw, 120x 6.15 = 738watts , the best matched transformer in this case is the ST-1000 , But if powering for over an hour then select the ST-1500
4. Is your appliance two pin or three pin?
All 8ZED Step Down Converters have the universal socket to suit all three variables.
Two pin, Two pin Keyed “one pin is thicker” and the Three pin “two flat one round”
5. Why won’t my appliance plug in?
All 8ZED Stepdown converters are manufactured using high quality pressed metal pin sockets and in the initial instances of usage a slight amount of force will be required to plug your appliance in.
6. What about the frequency of 60Hz to 50Hz?
Don’t be alarmed, What this means in regards to your appliance. In cases of motors they will turn 8~10% slower. So in case of fridges the temperature will be slightly higher hence the need to adjust the sensor to the next adjustment.
Whilst many items with speed controls are not affected, Such as sewing machines and most turn tables. In minor cases there are “digital” speed controllers used on turntables which will be affected.
Home AV receivers are mostly immune but in some cases and field studies there are some chipsets that control the Video signal that are affected. One example is Onkyo AV Receivers cannot sync picture to the TV.
Game Consoles, Please seek further assistance, As each console is different. In some cases a converter cannot be used.
Now for all the cooks, Kitchenaid mixers , All KSM 150 series IE the general ones you will need the ST-500, For all the kitchenaid pro’s you will need the ST-1000.

Great little unit for the price. Works just fine but it is a little noisy

100% happy with my purchase! Had it for around a month to use with USA hair waver which i love - it's working 100% perfect on any heat. So couldn't be happier! : )

Commentsit does the job well

Great little stepdown transformer. Be aware the continuous rating for unit is 400W so check what type of appliance you are running. As I run a Drill Doctor which draws 95watts and it is not continuous there is plenty of margin. I also run a battery charger for cordless tools and the draw is about 150watts continuous. It was delivered promptly and well packed with spare fuses which is something you almost never see! Happy to buy here again. Bob Gailiss

This is an excellent high quality product. I bought it to power a Lymphodemea Pump which I sourced from the USA, and the 500 watt model gives me power to spare. As I now have this 115v power sypply, I can buy electronic items from the USA without having to worry about whether it will work in 240 volt mode. The people at Wallcann also achieve a very fast delivery, only 7 days which included a weekend. Excellent service.
